OVERLAND PARK - Richard D. Sharkey, 53, Overland Park, died Sunday, Nov. 21, 2004, at home. A celebration of Richard's life will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf. Cremation with burial in Johnson County Memorial Gardens. A gathering of Richard's family and friends will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the chapel. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Heart Association, 6800 W. 93rd, Overland Park, Kan. 66212. Richard was born in Topeka and lived there until 1986, when he and his family moved to Kansas City. He worked in the grocery business for 30 years. Richard is survived by his wife of 32 years, Chris, of the home; children, Brandi Lee and her husband, Scott, Kansas City, Mo., Amanda Leung and her husband, John, Overland Park, and Jeff Sharkey, Nashville, Tenn.; one sister, Carolyn Steinbock, Topeka; and four grandchildren, Taylor Lee, Jennifer, Kaylee and Brendan Leung. Richard was a loving hus band, supportive father and a doting grandfather. He will be missed by his loving family and friends. Arrangements are by D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, (913) 451-1860.

Richard and I met at Holliday Junior High. We even worked together at a small neighborhood grocery store in Oakland. RIP my friend.
