Gayle Ann Gillespie

1951 - 2022

Gayle Ann Gillespie, 70, of Rossville, passed away on Friday, May 6, 2022 at a Rossville Health and Rehab. She was born August 20, 1951 in Topeka, KS, the daughter of Rex Hollister and Evelyn Loraine (Mahoney) Gillespie.

Gayle graduated from Topeka High School and attended Washburn University. She was employed by Blue Cross / Blue Shield of Kansas and the Employee Benefit Association processing medical claims. She was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church and most recently attended Fellowship Bible Church. Gayle never married. She devoted a time in her life to care for her parents until their passing.

Gayle was disabled the last part of her life and relied on caregivers for activities of daily living. She may not have always outwardly shown it, but was grateful for all the care she received. She considered her caregivers “her people” and would ask about their personal lives and about their families. Along with caregivers the other residents of Rossville Health and Rehab were also “her people”. She was an advocate for them and made sure staff knew of potential harm for them. Gayle was the current President of the Resident Council.

Survivors include her sister, Lori McNeal (Jeremy Potter) of Nebraska, three nieces, one nephew and many great-nieces and nephews and two great nephews.

Gayle was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Janet Halladay, her brother-in-law, Emmett “EJ” Halladay and brother-in-law Reuben “Mac” McNeal.

A Celebration of Gayle's Life will be held from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. Friday, May 20, 2022 at the First Southern Baptist Church. Private inurnment will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Rossville Health and Rehab Activities c/o Rossville Health Care and Rehabilitation, 600 E. Perry, Rossville, Kansas 66533.

Dove Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave. is assisting the family with service arrangements.

I'm so sorry to hear about Gayle's passing. At THS she was a proud member of the class of '69 and I remember her as a sweet and kind girl. No wonder that she dedicated her life to caring for her parents, then advocating for others at her rehab center. Condolences to her family and friends cga
