Brian Thompson

Brian Robert Thompson, 71, Topeka, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, April 30, 2023, at Midland Care Hospice House due to complications of a stroke.

Brian was born December 31, 1951, in Edmundston, New Brunswick, Canada, the son of Bud Thompson and Shirley Thompson Allen. Brian graduated from Topeka High School in 1969 and attended several classes at Washburn University and the University of Kansas. He married Kay King in 1970; they later divorced. Brian worked for the Kansas Department of Transportation from 1970 to 2004 and following retirement, his last place of employment was with the North Topeka Drainage District as Superintendent.
Brian was a very active lobbyist and heavily involved in politics. When he was younger, he was involved with saving the Constitutional Hall. Brian was a member of the Breakfast Optimist Club, Community Action and the Kansas Association of Public Employees (KAPE).

Brian is survived by his children, Kim Filby (Joey), Sarah Anderson (Josh) and Becky Thompson; grandchildren, Joshua Filby, Abigail Filby, Chastin Anderson, Alexander Anderson, Kiera Anderson and Sophia Anderson; two great-grandchildren; siblings, Stephen Thompson (Wanda), Glenn Thompson (Deidre) and Cherie Ferris; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a stillborn daughter, Michelle, parents, brother, Michael Thompson, and brother-in-law, Glenn Ferris.
Per Brian's wishes, he has been cremated.

There will be a Celebration of Brian's Life, Friday, July 14, 2023, at Garfield Shelter House, 1600 NE Quincy from 5 to 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans, and sent in care of Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home.
