Sad to add classmate Michael Escobar's obituary, appearing 1-21-18 in the Topeka Capital- Journal:

 

Michael Luis Escobar, 67, of Topeka, died suddenly on January 16, 2018 at Stormont-Vail Hospital.

He was born on August 23, 1950 in Topeka, Kansas the son of Vicente S. and Beatrice C. "Sally" (Ramos) Escobar. Michael was a 1969 graduate of Topeka High School.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1970 to 1974. He graduated from the Vo-Tech in Salina, Kansas where he studied Office Machine Repair. He worked in that field until his retirement as a service technician for several office supply companies.

Michael was a sports fan and had played baseball, was a wrestler and did gymnastics. His lifelong sport was Tennis where he played with his team in the Senior National Tennis Tournament for many years. He was a member of the U.S. Tennis Association. Michael was an avid fan of KU, the Kansas City Chiefs and the KC Royals although he enjoyed watching all sports.

He was married to Margie Chavez in 1975 and they later divorced. On May 18, 1985 he married Janette Landrau in Topeka and they had a son, Miguel "Mikey" Escobar. They later divorced.

Michael is survived by his father, Vicente S. "Bernie" Escobar of Topeka, his son Miguel "Mikey" Escobar (Amanda Weinbeck) of Topeka, a step daughter, Christina (Matthew) Martin of Topeka and their children, Victoria, Michael, Azrael and Violet. He is also survived by his siblings: Ronaldo (Mary Lou) Escobar of Topeka, Vicente "Mario" (Loretta) Escobar of Kansas City, KS, Richard (Ana) Escobar, Daniel (Sharon) Escobar, Ana Escobar, Roberto (Deborah) Escobar, and Teresa "Tessie" Escobar all of Topeka, Jaya Escobar-Bhattacharjee (Sudhansu) of Wichita, KS, and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Beatrice "Sally" Escobar on October 11, 2013.

Michael will lie in state at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church on Tuesday after 4:00 p.m. where the family will receive friends until 8:00 p.m. and a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery where military honors will be provided.
